bWell International Addresses Impact of HSAs on Retirement Planning at Upcoming Retirement Income Industry Association Meeting

NEW YORK, N.Y., February 23, 2006 – Phillip Micali, founder and CEO of bWell International, inc. ( www.bwell-inc.com), will address the issue of income and health expectations at The Second Annual Managing Retirement Income: Innovative Strategies to Capture and Retain Retirement Income, sponsored by the Retirement Income Industry Association, Monday, February 27, 2006, Hotel@MIT, Cambridge, Mass.

“As the initial wave of the 77 million baby boomers reaches age 60 this year, accompanied by an uptake in health savings accounts with high deductible plans, there is significant interest in products which ensure that potential retirees don’t outlive their income or compromise their health status,” says Micali, CEO of bWell, the leading provider of products and consulting services designed to support the identification and implementation of appropriate paths for Consumer Directed Health Plan (CDHP) design and launch.

bWell collaborates with large and mid-size employers to identify the most suitable vendor for the launch and roll-out of a CDHP offering. bWell also provides personalized consumer learning tools and calculators (bWell-informedTM) for reviewing coverage options. bWell maintains an experienced, independent perspective that is vendor-neutral.

At this conference, Micali joins industry notables representing multiple disciplines including investment managers, insurance companies, distribution channels, software and technology innovators, and defined benefits/defined contribution plan managers. Collectively, they will touch upon anticipated changes in the industry that span:

  • Strategies for how investment managers, insurance companies, and financial planners will adapt their business models for the shift from defined benefit to defined contribution plans;
  • Innovations in financial and insurance products that can be incorporated into existing product mix;
  • Retirees’ behavioral patterns;
  • Managing risk in a systematic withdrawal environment; and
  • New annuity structures that guarantee income when a retiree needs it.

Micali brings to the conference over 20 years’ experience designing, developing and operating innovative health and wellness companies, including HMOs and specialty managed care programs, both in the U S and in Europe. Prior to his innovative work in developing, selling and implementing health savings account models of reimbursement, Micali spent over 10 years in behavioral healthcare with the nation’s leading managed mental health companies – foremost network development, account management and government programs.

He is an accomplished speaker who regularly presents at meetings sponsored by The Conference Board, as well as the New York Business Group on Health (NYBGH) where he serves on its advisory council. Micali holds an MA in International Health Management, Economics and Policy from Bocconi University, Milan, Italy.
